Description
Lord Buddha was a great philosopher, mendicant, meditator, spiritual teacher, and religious leader who lived in Nepal before 700 B.S. The original name of lord Buddha was Siddartha Gautama. He was led from great pain and suffering towards the path of enlightenment and became known as Buddha. He is revered as the founder of the world religion of Buddhism and worshiped by most Buddhist schools as the enlightened one who has transcended Karma and escaped the cycle of birth and rebirth. His teaching is mainly based on suffering. He taught for around 45 years and built a large following, both monastic and lay.
Ancient Thai culture accepted the standing Buddha as an iconic image. In this idol Buddha may stand with his both feet together or one foot forward. The standing gesture is almost always in conjunction with raised arms as if to bestow the wisdom to the beholder or follower.
