Mahakali or Great Kali is sometime considered as a greater form of Kali, identified with the ultimate reality of Brahman. It can also be used as an honorific of the goddess Kali, signify her greatness by the prolix ‘Maha’. She is a goddess of death, time and doomsday and is often associated with violence and sexuality. But she is considered a strong mother figure and symbolic of motherly love. Mahakali is also the god of preserver of nature. Kali is standing on lord Shiva calmly represents the preservation of a mother nature. Her free, long and black hair represents nature’s freedom from civilization.
